Gov.
Abdulfatah Ahmed’s ambition to become a senator, representing Kwara South after
completing his second term in office is fueling crisis in the Kwara chapter of
the All Progressive Congress(APC), OrijoReporter exclusively gathered.
The crisis, which started as
a mere quibble over ambition between Gov. Ahmed and the incumbent senator, who
represents Kwara South in the senate, Rafiu Ibrahim, has gained full-blown
momentum.
Before occupying his present
office, Senator Ibrahim was a member of the House of Representatives. Now like
then, he hardly contributes to discourse in the senate but recently announced
his presence as a senator when he lent his voice to the planned suspension of
Kabiru Marafa, a senator representing Zamfara Central who accused the senate of
corruption.
Nursing the ambition to
return to the senate come 2019 despite his shortcoming, Senator Ibrahim is
locked in a battle against Gov. Ahmed over who between them will emerge as the
senatorial candidate of APC in Kwara South in three years’ time.
The battle became fierce
last week OrijoReporter was told when Senator Ibrahim’s loyalist and APC’s
youth coordinator in the state, Samson Bada was one of 118 suspected cultists
declared wanted by the state police command.
The inclusion of Samson, a
son of an ex-chairman of a local government in the state, in the list of
suspected cultists was blamed on Gov. Ahmed by Senator Ibrahim’s camp.
The allegation was that Gov.
Ahmed influenced the inclusion of the APC youth leader in the list so as to
clamp down on those supporting Senator Ibrahim’s return come 2019.
