10 killed, 59 injured in multiple vehicle collision in northwestern Türkiye


In a devastating incident in Türkiye’s northwestern province of Sakarya, a collision involving seven vehicles resulted in the tragic loss of 10 lives and left 59 others injured on Thursday morning (Dec. 28).

The accident occurred at Sakarya section of the North Marmara Motorway in the Istanbul direction, involving three buses and a truck in a chain reaction collision, the cause of which is yet to be determined.

As a consequence of the accident, traffic on the Istanbul-bound lanes of the motorway came to a standstill.

Sakarya Governor Yasar Karadeniz, in a statement, provided initial details, indicating that 10 individuals lost their lives in the incident, while 59 sustained injuries.

Governor Karadeniz also highlighted that the injured have been promptly transferred to hospitals, and emergency response teams are actively engaged in ongoing efforts in the affected region.
