Why Nigerian govt. declared Kano assembly speaker wanted



The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hamisu Chidari, is one of more than 200 travellers who were recently declared ‘wanted by the Nigerian government for allegedly violating new protocols put in place to halt the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Mr Chidari had reportedly returned to Nigeria via the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from Saudi Arabia through an Ethiopian airline on May 17, 2021. He was, however, said to have reportedly presented a coronavirus test result “which was found to be fake” by the health authorities in Nigeria.

Ahmed Gulak murderer on the street of Owerri by unknown gunmen, say police

 


The police have said a former presidential aide, Ahmed Gulak, did not inform them of his movement before he was killed by six bandits in Owerri, Imo State, on Sunday morning.

The Imo State Police Command said this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Bala Elkana, shortly after the politician was murdered.

South Africa's serial rapist gets 1,088 years for crime


Convicted serial rapist Sello Abram Mapunya, who raped and robbed 56 women across Pretoria suburbs for five years, has been given 1,088 years behind bars.

Judge Papi Mosopa handed down the hefty sentence in the Pretoria high court on Thursday. He had earlier found Mapunya guilty of 41 rapes, 40 counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances and 40 counts of housebreaking.

Mapunya, who was initially charged with 101 different crimes, began his crime spree in 2014 attacking his victims who included a 14-year-old girl, in Tshwane’s suburbs of Silverton, Nellmapius, Atteridgeville, Mamelodi and Olievenhoutbosch.

The brutal crime spree ended with his arrest by detectives from the serial electronic crimes investigation unit in March 2019.

Mosopa said none of the sentences would run concurrently.

Why Abidemi Rufai Should Not Be Granted Bail – U.S. Govt.


The United States Department of Justice has written a letter to the United States Magistrate Judge in Eastern District of New York, Ramon Reyes, on why it is dangerous to release an aide to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Abidemi Rufai, on bail.


The Acting U.S. Attorney, Tessa Gorma, in a letter obtained exclusively by PREMIUM TIMES on Thursday said Mr Rufai presents an extreme risk of flight and “if he does escape to Nigeria, extradition will be extraordinarily difficult or impossible because of his ties to the Nigerian government.”

Customs Seize Dangote Truck With 600 Bags Of Smuggled Rice In Ogun


A truck belonging to Dangote Cement Company has been arrested in Ogun State with no fewer than 600 bags of foreign rice, the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command has said.

The Dangote cement factory in Ogun State is situated at Ibese in Yewa North, a local government that shares borders with Benin Republic.

It was gathered that the truck driver and two persons were arrested while conveying the consignment to the South East.

A Nigerian citizen was arrested Friday evening at JFK Airport in New York on a criminal complaint charging him with wire fraud for his scheme to steal over $350,000 in unemployment benefits from the Washington State Employment Security Department, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Tessa M. Gorman.  Abidemi Rufai, aka Sandy Tang, 42, of Lekki, Nigeria, made his initial appearance Saturday May 15, 2021 in New York.  He is scheduled for a detention hearing Wednesday.  

“Since the first fraud reports to our office in April 2020, we have worked diligently with a federal law enforcement team to track down the criminals who stole funds designated for pandemic relief,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Gorman.  “This is the first, but will not be the last, significant arrest in our ongoing investigation of ESD fraud.”

Thieves Steal Bronze Statue Of Jesus From Church Garden In Newcastle


Thieves have stolen a six-foot bronze crucifix from a church remembrance garden in Newcastle, United Kingdom.

The crucifix, which includes a sculpture of Jesus Christ, was swiped from the All Saints Church in Gosforth, overnight Wednesday.

The Crucifix is reportedly worth an estimated £20,000 and police have now launched an investigation to try and identify those responsible for the theft.

Officers are calling on anyone with information about the theft to come forward.

Ellen DeGeneres Is Ending Her Show After 19 Years


Ellen DeGeneres just announced that the upcoming 19th season of her namesake talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, will be its last.

"When you're a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged — and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it's just not a challenge anymore," the comedian told The Hollywood Reporter. 

The host and her show have also been subject to myriad misconduct accusations from staffers over the past year, which include reports of mistreatment and unfair pay early in the pandemic.

According to DeGeneres, 19 seasons has been the plan for the past three years.

Singer Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan, has been reportedly diagnosed with throat cancer.

The Jangbajantise crooner is reported to have commenced chemotherapy in one of the hospitals in the United States of America.

He released his first single “Jagbajantis” in 2000, which was a hit in Nigeria.

Dare Adeboye, the son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Worldwide, Enoch Adeboye, is dead.

Baba Ijesha: Princess dissociates self from publication of molestation video



Damilola Adekoya, the foster mother of the girl molested by Nigerian actor, James Omiyinka, also known as Baba Ijesha, has distanced herself from the publication of the CCTV footage showing the girl being groped by the actor.⁣


Adekoya, a comedian and actress popularly known as Princess, said through her lawyers on Sunday that she had nothing to do with the publication of the video.⁣

The Punch published the video on its Twitter and YouTube account on Sunday morning.⁣

The footage has since gone viral on social and has been republished by hundreds of social media accounts.⁣

“Our client disclaims any liability or responsibility whatsoever that arises from the publication of the video on the internet or any social media platform showing Olanrewaju James Omiyinka (Baba Ijesha) molesting our client’s foster daughter,” Adekoya’s lawyers Ibilola Subair Law Firm said in a statement.⁣

“Our client did not authorize the release of the CCTV footage by Punch Media or any other person whatsoever.”⁣
