Court orders ex-pension boss, Maina’s arrest and trial in absentia

 


Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, revoked the bail he granted to Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman, Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) and issued at warrant for his arrest; stating additionally that he would continue his trial in absentia.

The ruling followed an application of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to the effect that the bail granted Maina, who is facing a 12-count charge of operating fictitious bank accounts, corruption, fraud and money laundering to the tune of N2 billion, should be revoked as a consequence for continuously failing to appear in court.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has written the US-based Cable News Network, CNN for its coverage of the #EndSARS protest in Lekki area of Lagos saying “CNN breached the most basic of the core principles of journalism – balance and fairness.”

 

The government is demanding “an immediate and exhaustive investigation from CNN into its ‘investigative’ report on the Lekki Toll Gate incident to determine, among others, its authenticity.”

Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19


Former President Jerry Rawlings of Ghana has died from complications of COVID-19.

The ex-president died at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, capital of Ghana, on Thursday morning.

A military ruler, who later joined politics, Rawlings ruled Ghana from 1981 to 2001.

He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected president of Ghana.

Rawlings was born on June 22, 1947.
