FG releases names, pictures of escaped inmates from Oyo prison


On October 22, gunmen had attacked the correctional facility in Abolongo, Oyo town, freeing several inmates.

According to Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, 907 inmates escaped, and some of them have been re-arrested.

Speaking on efforts to find the escaped inmates, Aregbesola had also said the details would be forwarded to Interpol and border posts all over the work.

Sunday Igboho linked with sponsors’ of Boko Haram


... received N127m from a sitting legislator 

The federal government says it identified the sponsors of Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho.

Abubakar Malami (SAN), attorney-general of the federation, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

According to Malami, a committee set up by the government found out that Igboho is linked to 43 accounts in nine banks.

The AGF said a federal lawmaker is Igboho’s major sponsor.

Oyo Governor Splashes Millions Of Naira On Cars For Party Leaders Amidst Plot To Impeach His Deputy


Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State amid a plot to remove his deputy, Rauf Olaniyan, on Monday presented two vehicles worth millions of naira to the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, and his successor, Dayo Ogungbenro.

According to a statement released by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, the vehicles, both Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, were presented as an exit gift and a welcome gift to Mustapha and Ogungbenro at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

Kim Kardashian West To Get Hidden Hills Estate In Divorce


According to court documents seen by TMZ, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have agreed to let Kardashian keep the couple’s Hidden Hills home. Kardashian has been staying in the $60 million home since she filed for divorce earlier this year. It’s been reported that the couple negotiated a buyout price for the home, which West and architect Axel Vervoordt worked on for years. The couple even bought the property next door to expand their estate. TMZ said the negotiations were “extremely cordial” between West and Kardashian. Kardashian and West bought the home in 2014 for roughly $20 million. This comes after West supposedly listed his Wyoming home for $11 million and purchased a beach house in Malibu for $57 million.

Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has said his visit to former governor of Lagos State and a leader in the ruling All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu was on health ground.

Tinubu returned to Nigeria earlier this month after spending weeks in London recovering from a knee surgery.

Fayose, a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, visited Tinubu at his Bourdillon, Ikoyi, residence on Tuesday. Many thought his visit could be in connection with Tinubu’s rumoured ambition to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Worried by the high rate of unemployment in the country, the duo of Mastercard Foundation and Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) have collaborated to train and fund 40,000 youth per year in the spate of 5 years.

 

To actualize this vision, Mastercard Foundation and EDC revealed that they have already partnered with Sterling Bank and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), to provide finance at nine per cent interest rate to all the trainees of the program to start their respective ventures.

Chidinma pleads not guilty to murder of Super TV CEO


22-year-old Chidinma Ojukwu, a 300-level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga.⁣

The accused on Tuesday pleaded when she and one Adedapo Quadri, who are the key suspects in the murder case were arraigned before Justice Yetunde Adesanya of the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square.⁣

Both suspects pleaded not guilty to eight counts bordering on the offences of murder, forgery, and stealing.⁣

They were also arraigned alongside Chidinma’s sister, Egbuchu Chioma from whom the late Ataga’s iPhone 7, was said to have been recovered.⁣

Chioma, however, pleaded not guilty to the 9th count of being in possession of the stolen property.⁣

They are being prosecuted by the Lagos State Department of Public Prosecution, Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi.⁣

Meet 28-year-old Khalil, head of Kaduna investment agency


Khalil Nur Khalil, a 28-year-old, has been appointed as executive secretary of Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA) by Nasir el-Rufai, the state governor.

Khalil is a graduate of the faculty of business and economics, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Cyprus.

Prior to his appointment, Khalil was the investment intelligence director at KADIPA — the youngest person to assume the role in the history of Kaduna.

In a statement issued on Monday, Muyiwa Adekeye, special adviser to el-Rufai on media, announced other changes in the governor’s cabinet.

Fury knocks out Wilder in 11th round to retain his WBC title


Tyson Fury won a slugfest with Deontay Wilder with an 11th round knockout to retain his WBC heavyweight title at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday (October 9).

Fury knocked Wilder down in the third round but the American responded in the fourth, sending the Briton to the canvas twice thanks to his powerful right hand.

But Fury ultimately overwhelmed Wilder to remain undefeated.

With the win, Fury (31-0-1) has now taken two of the three meetings between the rivals.

Dangote Cement, MTN pay highest income tax to FG in 2020

Dangote Cement Plc has emerged as the highest corporate income taxpayer and biggest employer of labour in the country for the year 2020.

 

The foremost indigenous cement manufacturer came first among top 100 elite companies listed on the Nigeria Exchange (NGX) posting into the coffer of the federal government a princely sum of N97.24billion in the year, while MTN Communication Nigeria Plc paid N93.6billion and Guaranty Trust Bank came third with an income tax of N36.66billion.

2face Idibia threatens N1bn defamation suit against Brymo


Singer, Innocent Idibia fondly known as 2baba, has slammed his colleague with a N1bn defamation suit if he does not apologise for defaming his character.


A few days ago, Brymo, in a long Twitter thread alleged that 2baba accused him of sleeping with his wife. He further alleged that 2baba sent thugs to beat him up. 

Abdulrasheed Maina’s son, Faisal, sentenced to 24 years in prison


A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Faisal, son of the erstwhile chairman of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, to 24 years imprisonment.


Justice Okon Abang, in his judgment, held that Faisal, who was sentenced in absentia, was guilty of all the three-count charge.

Faisal was handed down a five-year jail term for two charges, and 14 years imprisonment on a third charge. The prison terms would ruin concurrently.

Justice Abang had fixed the matter for judgment after the then Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s lawyer, Mohammed Abubakar, adopted the commission’s final written address and urged the court to convict Faisal in all the three counts levelled against him, “the prosecution having proved the case beyond all reasonable doubt.”

Faisal’s father, Maina, is standing a separate trial on a three-count charge bordering on money laundering.

EFCC arrests Ganduje’s wife over ‘fraud’


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested Hafsat, wife of Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano governor, over allegations of bribery and fraud.

The EFCC had acted based on a petition by her son, Abdulazeez, a report by Premium Times said.

Hafsat was arrested after failing to show up at the EFCC Abuja headquarters on September 13 upon invitation.

Social media services Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram have been hit by an outage lasting several hours.


All three services are owned by Facebook and could not be accessed over the web or smartphone apps.

Sustainability week: Dangote donates to old age home, physically challenged children

 


As part of activities marking the 2021 Global Sustainability Week, employees of the pan-African of Dangote Group, have donated food items and other hygiene products to the old age and the physically challenged children.

The donations were made on Tuesday in Lagos to the physically challenged persons at the Pacelli School for the Blind, Surulere and the Lagos State owned Old People's Home, Sabo-Yaba. The food items range from bags of rice, beans, semovita, noodles, beverages among many others.

The company is marking the Sustainability Week with the theme: ‘Building a Sustainable Future - The Dangote Way’, which begins on September 27 and to end on September 30.

Speaking on the initiative, Head, Sustainability, Dangote Group, Eunice Sampson said that “We are employees of Dangote Group and every year, we have our sustainability week, which is driven by employee volunteering.”
