The NCDC had
on Wednesday said a total of 196 new cases were
recorded in 12 states across Nigeria. It claimed that Lagos had recorded 80 new
cases and a total of 21 deaths since the index case of the pandemic was
discovered in Nigeria.
The Lagos State Government, however, only confirmed the number of new
cases but said the total deaths remained 20.
The State’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin
Abayomi, on his Twitter handle, had said the only casualty recorded on
Wednesday was a 25-year-old patient.
Abayomi wrote: “Unfortunately, one COVID-19 death
was recorded. The deceased, a 25-year-old male, was at the time of admission in
a state of severe breathlessness. This brings the total number of COVID-19
related deaths in Lagos to 20”.
“Total number of #COVID19 related deaths in Lagos
is now 20.
“I again urge Lagos residents to remain committed
to observing necessary precautionary measures to stop #COVID19 infection.
“Let’s be vigilant and report any concern about
#COVID19 infection in our communities.” he added
