It might have been an innocent comment, but it is rapidly
turning into a major gaffe based on the
attendant reactions.
Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun was a year older yesterday,
May 29, 2020.
The Oil baron – owns petroleum company, Heyden - turned Governor clocked 60.
He was forced to host a virtual party – via Zoom – because of
the prevailing threats of Covid-19 and the rules of engagement against it that
insist on Social (physical) distancing and no large gathering
naijacelebrities.net confirmed.
As part of the celebration, Governor Abiodun posted a
self-congratulatory 60th birthday on his social media handle that reads in part
‘’...The devil manned a road block on our way to victory last year..’’
The message has immensely fueled Abiodun’s political fight with
immediate past Governor Ibikunle Amosun since it town those who should know
disclosed to naijacelebrities.net.
Supporters of Amosun and other political opponents are feasting
on it claiming the ‘’ devil’’ reference was against Amosun.
Amosun was the strongest opposition to the gubernatorial
ambition of Dapo Abiodun.
Amosun wrecked his years of ‘’extraordinary friendship’’ with
Abiodun over the refusal to allow his friend to succeed him as the Governor of
Ogun State.
As an out-going governor – and members of the All Progressives
Congress – Amosun frustrated Abiodun at every turn within the party including
sponsoring party men on the platform of another political organization to back
his preferred candidate against Abiodun.
But Abiodun survived it all and emerged Governor of Ogun State
with Amosun unrelenting in his opposition by continuing to work against his
former friend at the federal level of government and the party.
‘’So when the governor made the devil manned a road block
comment, it was easy for Amosun’s supporters to latch on to it as abuse against
their supporters and those conversant with the situation at hand to interpret
it the same way’’ a source affirmed.
Naijacelebrities.net gathered that supporters of Abiodun and
Amosun are having ‘’heated’’ exchanges over the comment on and offline. – and
those who want to escalate such situations having a field day.
Here is Governor Dapo Abiodun’s message in full
‘’Today
holds a special place in things I hold dear. To the glory of God, I am 60 years
of age exactly one year after God, through the popular vote of the Ogun State
people, made me the Executive Governor of the State.
The
experiences that have come with six decades cannot be narrated now, but a few
are common knowledge to family and friends. The devil manned a road block on
our way to victory last year, but God insisted that the vision we have for the
Gateway State would not die until it is actualised.
I
am indeed grateful for and elated with all the kind messages I have received
from everyone, and I pledge not to rest on my oars until I have done my best in
the capacity you have elected me into.
I
will be celebrating at home today with my family, keeping in mind the need to
avoid a large gathering. This is in light of the mood and situation of the
Nation. Let’s all also remember this and other measures in our different places
of business, at home or anywhere else.
Thank
You, Good People of Ogun State.’’
