Advertorial: APC, A Waste Basket Of PDP

In 1998 he was elected Governor of Adamawa State. While still Governor-Elect he was
selected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate Olusegun Obasanjo as his running mate. The duo went on to win elections in February 1999, and Abubakar was sworn-in as Nigeria’s second democratically elected Vice President on May 29, 1999. Abubakar’s second term as Vice President was marked by a stormy relationship with President Obasanjo. His bid to succeed Obasanjo did not receive the latter’s support. Abubakar ran on the platform of the Action Congress, having quit the PDP on account of his issues with President Obasanjo. It is no longer news that Atiku lost the election. Now, he is one of the prime movers of APC.

In 2007, he was appointed as the Presidential Special Envoy to Somalia and Darfur by the Obasanjo administration after losing the bid from his party to contest the 2007 general governorship election. He continued to use his influence at the Federal level to undermine his opponents especially the Kano State Government. Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai was a former Director General of The Bureau of Public Enterprises, the head privatisation agency in Nigeria and also the formerMinister of theFederal Capital Territory, Abuja from 16 July 2003 to 29 May 2007 under the PDP government. During the last days of the Obasanjo administration, the former EFCC Chairman described El-Rufai as the “de facto No. 2 official”, tagging him with the role of a Vice-President, especially after the fallout between the former President and his Vice-President. It is believed that Obasanjo’s trust and confidence in El-Rufai angered a vast number of the political elite within the country. Indeed, it was
widely believed that the former President was considering blessing EL-Rufai as his successor.
However, it was believed the vast political powers against him were too much, probably as a result
of the fear of what may happen to them once he was in power.
