The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal on
Tuesday reserved judgement in the ongoing Ondo governorship crisis till
Thursday.
A panel of three judges led by Ibrahim Salauwa
disclosed this after taking final arguments by counsel on the matter.
The panel, a newly constituted group set up by the
Appeal Court President, Zainab Bulkachuwa, had adjourned hearing on the matter
on Monday after sitting for about 10 hours.
A previous panel had resigned based on allegations
of bias by a party in the suit.
On Tuesday, the court decided that judgements on
the appeals before it would be given on Thursday, after listening to the
various counsel.
Eyitayo Jegede, a governorship aspirant of the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had approached the appeal court to demand that
it nullifies previous decisions of a Federal High Court.
Mr. Jegede is of the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the
PDP. He wants the appeal court to declare him the authentic candidate of the
party for the November 26 governorship poll in the state.
The Federal High Court had on October 14 given an
order recognizing businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, as the rightful candidate of the
PDP.
Mr. Ibrahim is of the Ali
Sheriff faction of the PDP, the ruling party in Ondo State. The outgoing
governor, Olusegun Mimiko, is a staunch supporter of Mr. Jegede and has
condemned the electoral commission, INEC, for recognising Mr. Ibrahim as the
PDP candidate
