Filmmaker Seun Egbegbe Stays Put In Police Custody As Phone Theft Case Is Adjourned

Filmmaker Seun Egbegbe’s phone theft case was a no-show on Wednesday as his matter was adjourned until April 12, 2017.
Egbegbe made headlines in November last year when he was caught stealing nine
iPhone worth N2.4m at Computer Village in Ikeja, and consequently arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court.
The controversial filmmaker made headlines again last week when he posed as the Managing Director of General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos, to dupe one Alhaji Isa Adamu and Abdullahi Haruna( both bureau de change mallam) of $9,000 and £3000, and was caught.
His trial for allegedly stealing nine iPhones was stalled on Wednesday at an Ikeja Magistrate because the police failed to produce him in court.
Police source said the failure of the police to produce Egbegbe in court was owing to his recent arrest over the $12,000 scam.
It was gathered that the suspect’s failure to appear in court was because he is still in police custody over the alleged foreign exchange scam.
Due to his absence and that of the prosecutor, the Chief Magistrate Aje-Afunwa adjourned until April 12, 2017 for the trial.
