that sustained injuries as her husband’s Ikoyi, Lagos home collapsed.

The wife of the Deputy
Governor of Kogi State, Yomi Awoniyi, was among the four people trapped and
injured after a building owned by Awoniyi collapsed following a mysterious
explosion on Saturday (today).
The building, 19B Dolphin
Estate, Ikoyi, HFB Way, was said to have collapsed following a sudden explosion.
The three
occupants in the house, including Mrs. Awoniyi, were trapped, while the driver
who was outside washing cars was injured from the explosion.
Residents said that the
explosion occurred without warning, shaking other buildings to their
foundations.
Aside from the woman and
the other three injured, nobody was confirmed dead.
It was however gathered
that the four victims were rushed to the hospital immediately they were rescued.
The South-West Zonal
spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye,
said when the building collapsed, he and his men quickly ascertained if people
were trapped underneath the rubble.
Farinloye said once that
was established, emergency services swung into action and were able to evacuate
the four persons trapped there.
His words: “The building
collapse was suspected to have been caused by gas cooker explosion around
7:15am.
“The explosion and
subsequent building collapse affected three occupants, who were inside the
building at the time, and the driver who washing the car outside.
“Although no life was
lost, the four injured persons have since been evacuated to St. Maria Hospital,
Yaba, for proper treatment.
